My Plan for Santa Fe

Confidence in city government is down. Staff morale is suffering. At the same time, quality of life in the community is under pressure from rising crime, housing scarcity, and an increasingly divided community, among other daunting challenges.

The City of Santa Fe can and should do much better by its citizens, but that will happen only with hard work and deep expertise in city government.

Santa Fe can be more

I’m running for mayor because I believe my skills and experience can turn around the City of Santa Fe, which has been underperforming for years, despite the wishes and good intentions of many stakeholders. Problems like potholes, petty crime, crumpled sidewalks, weedy medians, unreliable service delivery and poor communication with constituents are rampant and impact everybody.

My career of more than 30 years solving problems that cities face has given me hands-on knowledge of how cities operate at all levels. I learned effective planning and management skills from experienced mentors and hard knocks re-engineering a wide spectrum of business processes and executing many capital improvement programs. I know what excellence in city services looks like and how to achieve it. And I’m ready to bring this expertise to bear with the City of Santa Fe.

I will bring this expertise to bear with the City of Santa Fe.

Let’s get to work.

“My commitment to Santa Fe is rooted in a deep love for our community and a desire to honor my ancestors’ hopes for future generations.

I want to work with you for a much better, more united Santa Fe.”

– Oscar

Crime

Implement modern community and data-oriented approach to policing with real-time streaming of reports for citizens. Increase direct community contact and communications to create a better sense of teamwork between the Police Department and the citizens they serve.

Public Infrastructure

Design a preventative maintenance system that fills potholes, repairs broken sidewalks, replaces failing water and sewer lines, and removes dangerous tree limbs before they become disastrous emergencies! Re-establish an ongoing collaborative and transparent 5-year Capital Improvement Plan that anticipates maintenance and budget needs in advance.

Housing Scarcity

Let’s reverse scarcity with abundance by streamlining and accelerating the planning and permit process. Implement already existing plans for more housing units and buildable lots. Respect and reflect residents’ concerns without being paralyzed into inaction. Create desirable options for the exceptional people who serve our community to be able to afford and enjoy living here as well.

Unhoused Population

Implement a targeted, comprehensive program of City services aimed at the practical needs of the unhoused – the 75% who need temporary housing and employment connections to get back on their feet after a financial crisis, and the 25% who need substance and psychological treatment and supervisory care. Make a humane and common-sense decision on the placement of pallet homes currently in storage and get them built and occupied.

Financial Transparency

Publish monthly auditable financial statements and budget reports available to the public and in preparation for timely and clean annual audits.
